Inspirations from the delightful Gond Art
Very often described as soulful, bright, bold and meticulously detailed, art by the Gond tribe of Madhya Pradesh in India has captured my attention for the last year and a half. I find myself constantly drawn to their colourful paintings which are a testimony to their fantastic imagination, powerful drawing skills and minute detailing which imparts a rich texture to the painting.
The paintings generally depict birds, animals and the mahua tree that is sacred to them. The animals are often cleverly intertwined or merged so that it delightfully teases the brain and compels a harder second look!
I finally had the courage this week to work on a couple of artworks that have been inspired by the Gond art in my own cutting style.
